Ed Hofer is available to create an original, custom painting just for you. You can commission a painting by submitting a photograph for Ed to work from, or you can suggest a subject or a landscape that has a special place in your heart. Ed will put his creative vision to work for you.
Custom Dog Paintings
Custom dog paintings created by Hofer Studios will serve as a lifelong reminder of the pet you love. Ed will work closely with you to achieve the imagery that captures the essence and soul of your loved one.
As Ed says...
"Dogs have always been part of my life. I remember looking up "Dogs" in the encyclopedia when I was a kid and I would sit and draw them while I would wait for my parents to wake up. I also remember there was a poem about a dog's loyalty and devotion that had a memorable effect on me. (see attached) So it just seemed natural that I would combine two passions by creating paintings of dogs!
For an artist, can there be a better subject matter? They're all characters! They make us laugh, don't hold grudges and are always there with a wag of the tail and a kiss on the hand to make everything alright.
I love to hear each owner tell their story about their loyal friends and what makes them so endearing. It's my passion to capture not only the unique look of each pet but to capture the special relationship that it brings to the owners.
Turning your dog and your relationship into an original piece of art, that embraces that partnership and is worthy to be displayed in your home, is my goal. A painting of your dog should add joy to your days and immortalizes that special member of your family forever..."
The Commission Process
Step 1
A commission starts with a conversation with you about your pet and your ideas for a painting. I like to hear about what makes your dog special so I can try and capture that personality in the painting. We'll discuss what type of painting you have in mind including size, color preferences and style.
Step 2
After that initial conversation, you'll take photos that capture that certain look or pose that you love. (See photography tips) You can either email me the photos or have the prints mailed to me. I'll call you when I receive the photos and we'll finalize any creative aspects of your project.
Step 3
Next, I will email you the initial sketch on the canvas so that you are satisfied with the composition. After approval, I'll start your painting.
Step 4
Once the painting is at a stage where it's ready for your review, I'll email you a proof for your approval. It's at this stage where you have the opportunity to suggest revisions or changes that you want. I will work with you until you are completely satisfied.
Step 5
I will complete the painting and send you a final proof for your acceptance. After approval and final payment is received, your painting will be professionally packed, insured and shipped by UPS.
Due to the nature of custom work, turnaround time varies from 3 to 6 weeks. If you need a painting sooner, ask and everything possible will be done to meet your deadline.
